The radio is a great tool to learn French. And it’s available at all times, online – even while you’re doing something else! You get to listen to French music, well spoken French talking, with some humor and news in France… but it depends on which station you listen to.
And in France we have a ton of radio stations, but which ones are best for language learning? For that, I’m happy to introduce to you my top 5 recommended French radio stations that you’ll enjoy too (even if you’re a complete beginner) and I’ll tell you why.

Si ça peux aider les internautes internationaux j’écoute souvent les radios d’information d’autoroute, sur ce type de radio les animateurs parlent de jours comme de nuit pour informé les automobiliste d’évènement sur les autoroute Française. Il y en a 3 :
“Radio Vinci Autoroute”,
“Sanef 107.7” (French & English traffic information in rush hour)
Et “Autoroute info”,

Could anyone tell me which radio station I should listen too . . . I live in 47500, a station covering 46 area would also be fine. I think I would pick up more French if I knew the local topics.

In the South of France 5 years ago I heard a radio station that played old English and American
Pop songs. I was staying near Grasse. Could you tell me what the name of the station was?

I’m not in the area, so I’m not sure. There are a lot of radio stations, and a lot of them play American pop songs.
But I would suggest it might be:
FIP Radio – https://www.fip.fr/ –> great music in general
Nostalgie – https://www.nostalgie.fr/ –> Old music
Agora Côte d’Azur – https://www.agoracotedazur.fr/ –> Grasse local radio station. When I’m writing this message, it’s playing Ella Fizgerald.

Quand j’ai habite pres de Nantes j’ ai ecoute assez souvent a Nostalgie. Vous y avez une mixe de tubes francais et anglophone de mon epoch. Il m’a introduit a les bonne ballades francais. Maintenant j’ecoute de temps en temps par Internet.

I always have Skyrock on the car radio because my 22 year old daughter likes it and I like it too now. In the morning they play jokes on the public by ringing them up, saying outrageous things, it is really funny. Thank you for the suggestions, I haven’t heard of some of them, I’ll give them a try. I sometimes just have the radio on in the background, even if I am not listening to it, just to get the flow of the language.
Très utile Géraldine, j’écoutais dans le passé de temps en temps des chaînes de radio françaises, mais je trouvais, assez souvent, qu’il y avait trop de publicité. Maintenant je vais chercher les chaînes que tu nous as décrit. Merci beaucoup.

J’aime bien écouter la radio – et les pubs aussi. Je les trouve très utile parce qu’elles sont si répétitive. Elles sont très ennuyeux dans votre langue maternelle, mais pour apprendre une autre langue – c’est parfait! En plus, tu découvre toutes les bonnes chansons françaises.
Quand je suis en Belgique, j’écoute Radio Contact.
Je le joue même pour mes étudiants en classe.
Europe1. I first listened to it as a teenager when it seemed to be more music-based, but I like its mix of current affairs, quiz shows, consumer programmes and arts. Have to put up with the ads though.

J´écoute souvent de la jazz à JAZZ Radio sur l´internet. La musique est organisée par genre : jazz, soul, blues, lounge, nouveauteés, only women, funk, electro swing, zen attitude, piano jazz, manouche, classic jazz, groove, jazzy french, latin, etc etc.

J’ai découvert FIP il y a 30 ans et depuis 7 ou 8 ans, je l’écoute sur Internet. Que je suis contente de le voir en haut de votre liste.

High quality content?? Skyrock?? Great if you want to discover the French have no idea what F**K and other choice swear words banned on UK radio mean, or if they do they don’t care who hears them, I
once sat next to an elderly Nun in a waiting room while SKYROCK boomed at ” F**K YOU repeatedly ” at 16hrs while the nun tapped her foot! 🙂
Lots of local stations get round the 40% rule by playing 3 hours of accordion music on Sunday mornings !

Indeed, the French have no idea what it means nor its weight.
However, in French, we don’t censor words.
It’s always fun to listen to some songs played in French shops where the shop owners have NO clue what the song is about.
I often think of asking them “Are you SURE this is appropriate?” 😀

Merci pour cette leçon. J’habite aux Etats-Unis, et dans ma voiture j’écoute à XM170 (Ici Premiére, Radio Canada). L’accent est parfois différent, mais je peux comprendre environ 1 mot en 5. Pas mal! Hahaha!
Je vais écouter à certaines des stations que vous avez listées. J’espère que je peux apprendre plus…

Chaque matin j’écoute Le Journal en Français Facile sur RFI. Il s’agit d’une émission de 10 minutes sur les nouvelles internationales, et le site Web inclut une transcription. J’écoute toute la diffusion, puis sélectionne une histoire et réécoute, phrase par phrase, comprends les mots du mieux que je peux, puis vérifie en utilisant la transcription. Le Français Facile n’est pas encore assez facile pour moi, mais ça m’aide vraiment à développer mon oreille pour le français.

Moi j’ecoute suivant FIP, et aussi France Inter de temps au temps.
Quand jai a pris une course français en La Rochelle, j’ecoutera France Bleu, pour entendu plus de la région locale. Mais maintenant (au Payes Bas!) j’ecoute beaucoup des radios qui sont en français mais pas en france–par example, Couleur 3 de la suisse et un peu similair que FIP, juste avec plus annoncés des avalanches 😉

Oui, en effet, les fréquences France Bleu locales sont très populaires.
On adore écouter les émissions de jardinage sur France Bleu car on y connait rien au jardinage et que ça nous fait rire.
Il y a aussi plein d’émissions locales.
