D’abord, commencez tôt et allez au sommet. C’est mieux de passer les touristes quand on descend. Les ruelles sont bien étroit. Alors, c’est aussi super de regarder le Mont quand on se promene vers l’île.
Je voudrais voir un vidéo sur les falaises roses de granit de Bretagne.

Dear Geraldine, your pronunciation lacks a bit of clarity. I think because you speak to fast!!!! French too fast, English not clear enough, sorry, but I think its because you try to speak fast….. love your videos.
J’ai visite le Mont Saint Michel avec un groupe scholaire quand j’avais 15. C’est un bel endroit! Mais il y a venteux et pluvieux tout le journee. J’ai vu l’abbaye et mange croque monsieur et crepes au nutella. J’y veux retourner un jour!
Quand j’ai eu finalement l’occasion de visiter le Mont St. Michel j’y ai perdu une de mes lentilles de contact!

On habite une petite ville dans le department Manche pas loin de Mont St Michel (moins de 50 km), mais ma femme et moi n’y avons jamais visites, car ayant vecus en France pendant dix mois et pour a premiere fois on a ete preoccupes par faire tout ce qui est necessaire pour s’installer. On s’attendais des hauts et des bas, et on en bien rencontrais! Mais tout va bien, la vie francaise roules ses poules (dont on a le quatre).
Apres la rentree (quelle surprise!) on se donne un weekend chic a Paris en recompense de tous ses efforts, surtout lesquels de ma femme. Elle a envie de visiter Bvd Haussmann et Champs d’Elysees pour faire ses courses jolies, et qui pourrait lui en refuser?
Merci Geraldine, My wife & I visited Mont St Michel on a day trip from before they decided to build that causeway!! Much more fun when the tide has its way. A beautiful place.

J’ai visité le Mont St Michel il ya trente ans. Je suis allée en Novembre, c’était génial. Aujourd ‘hui c’est le première fois que je vous ai écrit en Français….argh!

Lirraine’s post has reminded me that I went there
too in the mid ’90s one evening to see an exhibition
of “son et lumière” which was very atmospheric
and enchanting in that Gothic setting. It can get
a bit bunged up with tourists in high season, but
if you can turn up there when a special event is
taking place it is well worth the effort. I was staying
at Cancale at the time, which isn’t too far away, and
is famous for its oyster farms … plenty of seafood
restaurants to try at Cancale as you plan your visit
to le Mont-St-Michel.

On my first visit to France in Aout, 1999, I asked my friend, Claude who invited me to France to take me there. We went with her friend, Thierese for the day from her home in St Valery-en-Caux, 200km to the west of Le Mont St Michel. It’s impressive even before you arrive as you can see it grow in size as you approach. I found it to be quite crowded in late summer. My French friends said not to purchase much at the café we stopped at because the prices were so higher than usual. Sadly I didn’t get to see the actual Eglise. But I walked around most of the city, and the views are extraordinary. Since my visit there, I consider it should be added as #8 to the Wonders of the World! Lastly, because we hadn’t eaten at the expensive café, we were hungry. There was an EXCELLENT hot dog van/mobile café 4km SW of the Le Mont. French hot dogs and the Dijon mustard – Ooo, la LA!!! 😛
The sunset is spectacular from the beach of le mont St. Michel.

Le-Mont-Saint-Michele! My husband and I visited 3 years ago and it was absolutely Stunning!!!! From the time we first “saw” it from the car till we entered, had lunch, and stayed overnight! What a dream come true. Yes, the days are full of people and shops etc. but that is to be expected. You can climb around the rim – look over at the views – breathe in the air – and just feel lucky that you were able to see this marvelous place in your lifetime!!!! I would have loved to hear music being played at the top. It was beautiful. A highlight of our trip to Normandy!!!! Thank you for your talk on this wonderful place!
I was there this past April. A friend and I climbed the steps to the top where were greeted with a lovely view. It’s a beautiful place. We loved the shops and the cobbled stoned floors as we were leaving.

Where does Mont St. Michel get drinking water? Is sewage
processed, or dumped into the sea? How is the waste managed
from millions of tourists?
Perhaps a video about the Cathar castles and history from the Languedoc would be interesting. We have visited 5-6 of them. Fascinating history from the 11th-12th centuries.
My mother, wife, and I visited a few years ago. If you go around towards the left instead of directly in the main gate, there is a smaller entrance. It leads to a smaller, steeper, but not crowded or tourist-shop-filled path to the door of the abbey. You can then visit and tour, later simply descending the cobbled tourist-and-shop-filled road as you leave.

When I was there in 1987 it was a tourist trap, so when I returned with my husband this year (his first time), we went in the evening and viewed it from the outside, that was enough for both of us!

Merci, Geraldine. J’ai visité le Mont-Saint-Michel en juillet! C’était magnifique. Nous ne sommes pas restés à la ville, peut être la prochaine. Dans l’abbaye, j’ai aimę voir la salle à manger avec les plumes se suspendent au plafond. Je voudrais marcher dans le sable avec une guide comme vous!
J’ai visite le Mont-St-Michel il y a trente ans, avant la construction du pont. Je l’ai trouve vraiment magnifique. On etait au sommet pour voir le haussement de la maree. C’etait bien impressionant. J’ai garde de tres bons souvenirs de vetted visite et j’aimerais y aller encore une fois un de ces jours.
Je serais tres interessee d’avoir des renseignements sur la position des langues comme le Breton, l’Occitan, le Basque en France. Je suis ecossaise et la langue gaelique est enseignee dans les ecoles dans le nord-oest de l’Ecosse et les iles Hebrides. Il y a aussi une chaine gaelique a la tele en Ecosse. Est-ce que les langues regionales ou indigenes sont encouragees, tolerees ou quoi? Merci, Sue

Je ne connais pas le point de vue des Bretons et des Basques mais je dirais que l’apprentissage est encouragé.
En Bretagne, beaucoup de panneaux dans les 2 langues. Pour le reste de la France, je sais pas. 🙂
Oui! J’y suis allé en 1990, avec les amis universitaires. La vue… était magnifique. Nous sommes allés à pied de côte, et aussi marché jusqu’au sommet.

il est préférable de visiter le Mont en morte saison touristique, pourquoi pas une nuit en gite à Cherueix juste à côté en Brtetagne et voir la baie à son réveil … magique

I loved the Mont St Michel when I visited it in 1993. I met two lovely Finnish girls on the train who kindly invited me to share a hotel room with them so that it would be cheaper for all of us! We toured the abbey on a special midnight tour where it was all lit up and there were lots of art installations to see with very beautiful music being played. I have a very vivid memory of the great speed in which the tide came in. The tide was out and then the water very quickly moved towards the Mont and did not seem to move in and out (like a normal tide), but just towards it. It was very cool and I will not forget it. Oui j’ai déja visité le Mont et c’est superbe! Mais trop de touristes pour moi même que je suis une aussi. La vue autour du baie est magnifique.
Merci Géraldine pour ton video au sujet de Mont-St-Michel. C’était super. Mon mari et moi y sommes allés en 2013. Nous avons garé notre voiture très loin du mont et nous y avons marché…la vue était fantastique ! Je me rappelle que les plats dans les restaurants étaient plus cher qu’ailleurs en France, mais ça vaut la peine parce que le mont et l’architecture est passionnant ! Nous ne pouvions pas quitter le mont pendant quelques heures à cause de la marée haute !!
